Hot Lunch Program
Hot Lunch Program
There are many things that make the Good Shepherd Montessori School hot lunch program stand out. To start, great care and creativity is put into each menu, resulting in meals that are tasty, nutritious, and even educational, as students discover dishes from around the world. In addition, our hot lunch team is extremely sensitive to different dietary needs and ensures that each individual student can enjoy a high-quality meal each day. It is also true that we strive to use local and sustainable sources for the food we use whenever possible. Lastly, we recognize the importance of culinary art within our broader curriculum. Each week junior high students take part in preparing our daily hot lunch. On other occasions, younger students may come to the kitchen and contribute to our meal through their own meaningful work. Culinary arts requires a student to use all five senses and fosters concentration, precision, and creativity. Working in the kitchen can even have a calming presence, allowing a student an alternative space to do important work before returning once again to a classroom. Meal preparation is far from a mindless assembly line; it is an integral part of the holistic education we strive to provide for each student.
